Localize the proposition and proof
Start with the customer problem, not the source-language copy. Confirm that the use case, emotional benefit, product category, and proof points make sense in the target market. Adapt examples, imagery, reviews, creator voices, and comparisons so they feel locally credible.
Keep regulated, technical, health, environmental, and performance claims in a controlled review workflow. Translation quality does not establish that a claim is permitted or substantiated.
- Customer vocabulary and search language
- Product name, category, and benefit hierarchy
- Local reviews, demonstrations, and social proof
- Claims requiring legal or specialist validation
Localize price and checkout
Display a familiar currency and make the total cost understandable before payment. Review taxes, duties, delivery fees, discount conventions, payment methods, address formats, phone validation, and checkout error messages. Unexpected landed cost is a common trust and conversion failure.
Run real-device checkout tests with local payment methods. Track payment failure reasons separately from customer abandonment.
- Currency, tax, duties, and rounding
- Local payment methods and fraud rules
- Address and phone formats
- Mobile speed and checkout completion
Localize delivery, returns, and support
Set delivery promises based on observed carrier performance rather than the best-case SLA. Explain tracking, customs handoffs, failed delivery, returns, refunds, and warranty steps in plain language. Ensure support has the language, hours, tools, and escalation path to keep the promise.
A localized storefront with an unlocalized exception experience can damage trust faster than untranslated marketing.
Measure localization as a funnel
Define acceptance criteria for product-page engagement, checkout progression, payment success, delivery, returns, support contacts, and repeat purchase. Compare cohorts by language, market, device, channel, and localized variant.
Prioritize changes that remove measurable friction. Maintain a localization backlog with an owner, evidence, expected impact, and verification method.
