Set the market-specific customer promise

Define eligibility, window, condition, fees, refund timing, exchanges, damaged goods, duties, and exceptions in plain language. Validate consumer obligations and product-specific requirements with qualified local reviewers.

Make the policy visible before purchase and consistent across storefront, marketplace, support, and confirmation messages. Hidden complexity increases contacts and disputes.

Design reverse-logistics paths

Choose among local return addresses, consolidation, cross-border shipping, carrier labels, lockers, pickup, refund without return, exchange, or store credit. Route by product value, size, condition, market, fraud risk, and recovery opportunity.

Document each handoff and service level from request through inspection, disposition, and refund. Customers care about resolution certainty more than internal ownership boundaries.

Model the economics and disposition

Include outbound subsidy, return transport, duties, processing, inspection, repackaging, write-off, fraud, refund fees, and recovered value. Compare the cost of return with keep, replace, repair, liquidate, donate, or destroy decisions.

Use expected return cost in SKU, price, promotion, and channel planning. A product can grow revenue while destroying contribution through preventable returns.

Reduce preventable returns

Track reason, SKU, variant, size, supplier, market, channel, campaign, creator, delivery experience, and customer cohort. Review comments and support conversations beside codes.

Turn the findings into better product data, imagery, sizing, packaging, quality control, merchandising, delivery promises, and customer education.
